Hikari Kanzaki

 Born in Japan, Hikari was not a very normal child. His mother has conceived him after a one night stand with a man that she never met before but that knew her very well. The thinblood that fathered him had fled the UK to escape his sire, and had fallen in love with this mortal woman. 

While growing up, Hikari rarely met his father. It was always late at night when children were already sleeping - or supposed to be! - and his mother did not like to talk much about him, even after he visited and left generous amounts of money for her to raise her son with.

Growing up, he struggled to keep a control over his Beast and his own emotional instabilities borne from dealing with it. His grandfather taught him how to meditate and got him into the same club that he had been in in his glory days as a martial artist. Hikari quickly took to it with preternatural grace and strength, but never enough to seem entirely supernatural. He steeled his will and trained hard under his grandfather, who ran him through a lot of exercises to steel his mind - despite the bits of money, he could not really afford therapy to deal with his 'mental problems' - not that a therapist would have helped much against the ravages of the Beast.

While vampires are thrown into the deep end and have to learn to live with their Beast fast, Hikari had all his life to deal with his 'emotional outbursts', and through a strict training regimen, a lot of meditation and an iron will he managed to wrangle it under control - or at least he likes to thinks he did. Although weaker than the Beast of a proper vampire, Hikari still struggles to keep it under control at times, a reason why he keeps meditating and training his will to be stronger than his urges.

After years of this, his grandfather passed away, leaving Hikari mourning for quite a while. The man had been the only person to truly understand him and his only real father figure so it hit him hard. But his grandfather did mention in his last will that quit a few of his possessions were to be sold off to get the money to let Hikari study in another country. He might not have been the best student, but his grandfather firmly believed that this would help him.

And so he did move to the US just a few months later to study medicine.
