The Rules
Updated December 16, 2022
These are the terms, conditions and policies - the Rules - governing Red Hand Chronicles (RHC) that all members agree to abide by when joining RHC. These Rules may be updated at any time, but any modification will be announced.
1 | Joining RHC
Red Hand Chronicles is an 18+ community — you MUST be 18 years old or older to join. There are no exceptions to this rule! RHC uses Discord to roleplay and a website to organise background information and character sheets. To join RHC you will need to join the Discord server (the Server) and register an account on the website (the Site). When registering on the Site, please ensure to use the same name that you use on the Server. Joining the RHC Server and/or the Site constitutes an agreement to abide by these rules.
2 | RP Etiquette
Please do not god mod, meta play, power play, or introduce something into a thread without discussing with the other participating members if it is okay. Your character may be in charge of theirs In-Character (IC), but you, as a member, have no control over another member. Communicate with them, it's the only way to make things fun for everyone.
3 | Multiple Characters
The number of characters you create may be limited. These limitations will be noted in the character creation rules for each chronicle run by RHC.
4 | Face Claims
Characters may have a face claim, either real life or artwork. A real life face claim must be a living 'celebrity' such as a model or actor. Yes this can be a social media celebrity provided they have a reasonable public following. Yes this can be an adult film personality. No this cannot be a political or religious figure. When using artwork, please respect copyrights and ensure you have appropriate permissions to use the artwork.
All real life face claims must be 18 years of age or older and all images of the face claim being used must be from when the face claim was 18 years old or older at the time the image was taken.
All artwork face claims must depict someone 18 years of age or older.
5 | Activity
After a player has joined the RHC Server they must register an account on the Site within 7 days or they may be kicked from the Server. Extensions can be requested by contacting Staff on the Server.
If a player has not engaged on the RHC Server and has not started the character creation process within 7 days of joinging the Server, they may be kicked from the Server. Extensions can be requested by contacting Staff on the Server.
Activity checks will be done every two months. Activity checks are conducted automatically without notice, from the 1st day of the first month until the end of the last day (eastern time) of the second month.
To pass an activity check, a character must have one IC interaction within the activity check period.
If a character does not pass an activity check, they will automatically be archived.
If you are going to be away and unable to roleplay during an activity check period, please post a message in the Discord server’s #absences channel. A character can be exempted from one activity check due to absence.
To un-archive a character, please contact Staff, however, you are limited to un-archiving one character per month.
6 | Explicit Content
RHC is rated 3-3-3 following the RPGRating.com system. As such, explicit content is allowed on RHC including swearing, mature language and detailed descriptions of sexual activity and explicit violence.
There is no requirement to identify potential triggers on RHC, but members may include content warnings if they so choose. If you come across something you do not enjoy reading about, don’t continue reading the thread.
No content depicting minors (<18 years old) in sexually explicit, abusive or illegal activity is permitted on RHC. There are no exceptions! References to these types of situations is permitted in a character's background provided that explicit depictions are not represented.
No content depicting animals in sexually explicit, abusing or illegal activity is permitted on RHC. For clarity, an animal is defined as any non-human-originating or non-human-derived creature; humans, vampires and werewolves in all forms are not considered animals for the purposes of this rule.
At RHC we believe in 'Unambiguous Enthusiastic Consent'. What does this mean? It means that in order to include explicit sexual content in your engagements with another member, you must obtain their clear consent to do so. This includes IC scenes, tagging someone in the #nsfw channel, DMing, etc.
With respect to IC scenes, if a player has not provided their consent for explicit sexual content, then any such eventualities must 'fade to black'.
If you access the #nsfw channel then you are consenting to see potentially sexually explicit materials. Accessing the #nsfw channel does not however provide consent to be tagged in the #nsfw channel or to be otherwise engaged in sexually explicit discussions. If you choose to engage in a discussion in the #nsfw channel, then this would constitute consent to be engaged within the context of that discussion.
When in doubt: ASK FOR CONSENT!
7 | Conflict Resolution
RHC uses the Storyteller roleplaying system. Each chronicle run by RHC will note the specific core system books, supplementary system books and any chronicle specific rules in their House Rules book. Conflicts should be resolved in accordance with the mechanics provided by these rules.
At anytime you can request the assistance from Staff in the Server's #ask-staff channel.
8 | Warnings
If you receive a warning from Staff, please be courteous. Do not be arrogant, do not argue, and definitely do NOT ignore the message. Of course, you can explain any misunderstandings to them, but an explanation may still not lift the warning.
We are all adults here. Staff are not here to cater to your every want and need, they are not here to babysit you nor resolve simple conflict, and they are definitely not here to parent you and ground you. We are here to run a site. And you are here to have fun and enjoy what we've made for you. Be an adult.
9 | Intellectual Property
RHC is a collaborative environment in which many people contribute to a larger body of work. While you have ownership of the thoughts and ideas that you contribute, in contributing this intellectual property you provide RHC with an irrevocable license to store, distribute and derive works from them on the RHC site.
What this means is that your characters and what you write about them on RHC is yours, but once contributed to the RHC site, we have the right to retain them, to allow others to read them, and our members can write stories that reference them on the RHC site.
We will not delete or remove content unless it violates these rules or we are compelled to by law.
10 | Contribution Agreement
No member will contribute any material which is, in an Out-of-Character context, knowingly false, inaccurate, abusive, hateful, harassing, sexually orientated, threatening or invasive of a person's privacy, or any other material which may violate these rules or any applicable laws.
11 | Discord
The Server is the platform used for roleplaying on RHC. It is also used to facilitate out-of-character communication among players and between players and Staff.
When interacting on the Server, players must conduct themselves in accordance the RHC rules and the Discord Community Guidelines. Specific extensions to the Discord Community Guidelines include:
- No minors (<18 years old).
- No text walls, spamming or flooding the chat with messages.
- Keep things civilized.
- Avoid potentially sensitive subjects (i.e. politic, religions, etc).
- Keep NSFW discussions and media to the #nsfw channel.
- No advertising or solicitation.
- Do not answer questions on behalf of Staff.
- Do not argue with Staff.
- Set your nickname to match your member name on the Site.
In addition, RHC has adopted a positive play policy. What does this mean?
We expect our members to be kind and respectful to one another.
We expect discussions and interactions between members to be mostly focussed on the game, and to promote a healthy, positive environment.
We expect members to avoid controversial Real Life topics of discussion.
Everybody has a bad day. RHC provides a venting channel to gripe about shit that happens. Collegial discussion is fine, but RHC is not a support group for Real Life problems, nor is it the place to obtain advice on personal issues, including mental or physical health challenges.
12 | Non-Compliance
Failure to comply with these rules may result in a warning, the termination of your account, account suspension, or a permanent ban removing access to the Server and/or the Site. And any content that is found to have violated these rules, or any applicable laws, may be removed or edited at any time.
13 | Staff just wanna have fun
Staff are people too, and just like you they want to have fun. So while it may take us a while to get back to you sometimes, but we promise we will get to your requests! Please be patient and try not to pester us too much.
14 | Cookie Policy
15 | Privacy Policy

Notwithstanding the above, RHC Staff is not liable for the disclosure of any information (personal, private or otherwise) resulting from external malicious actions (i.e. hacking).
