How To Roleplay
Use Discord
RHC uses Discord to roleplay.
Roleplay occurs in the categories (and channels) marked as IC (e.g. #ic-central). Do not RP in other channels!
Location, Location, Location
To start a roleplay scene, find the channel that best represents the location where the scene takes place (or the medium used in the case of communications).
Use Threads
Use Discord's thread functionality to start a thread for your scene.
Conventions
Some conventions to observe when roleplaying:
- Do not use OOC chat conventions (e.g. using Italics to denote actions), instead use normal prose formatting.
- Place any OOC text within double brackets,
e.g.(( This is OOC text. ))
Optionally, you can enclose OOC text (including the brackets) in spoiler mark-up if you want to 'maintain' IC immersion,
e.g. ||(( This is OOC text in spoiler mark-up. ))|| - Begin your first post in each scene with the name of the character you are playing within double brackets,
e.g.(( Playing: Jane Smith ))
Do not enclose playing declarations in spoiler mark-up. - If you are playing more than one character in a scene, prepend all IC posts with a playing declaration.
- Do not use replies.
- Tag participants to invite them into a scene, or to let them know that you have replied.
Rolling
Use the #dice-rolls channel to perform any rolls required in a scene, including any feeding scenes that your are roleplaying out.
The command for the dice-roller is:
/mm <pool> [difficulty] [specialty] # comment
You must provide a comment describing the intent of the role for the roll to be valid.
Generally speaking, players do not need a Storyteller to oversee their rolls. If both players are content, then by and large Staff will be happy. However, players are free to request the assistance from staff using the #ask-staff channel including clarification on rolling, resolving a dispute, etc.
In the event of a botch, a Storyteller may intervene and explain what has happened; your character has full agency however to react as they see fit, but remember, IC actions have IC consequences.
